Ubud, Indo

I had first heard about Ubud in Elizabeth Gilbert’s book Eat, Pray, Love but had heard from others that it was a great town to head to – filled with forests, rice fields, great veggie restaurants and yoga. Don’t get me wrong, I had a great time there, but the town, having just been visited by Julia Roberts, was flocking with tourists and the sounds of moto’s and horns was unbearable. All negative factors aside, we had a great time.

Recommendations:

Stay at someones home (they will come and get you when you hop off your moto or out of a taxi).

Walk the streets at night and sit and watch the locals practicing their music on the big steel drums in preparation for the next spirit festival.

Eat at Kafe & Bali Buddha.

Do NOT visit Ketut Liyer.

Go through Monkey Forest to the other side of Ubud. It is much more quiet, the homestays are cuter and there is a less busy yoga studio.
