Make sure to understand exchange rates before checking into a 'hostel' suggested in the Lonely Planet's 2004 South America issue. We ended up staying in the beautiful old city of Cartagena thinking the cost per night was equivalent to $7.50...take a hint when the other guests in the hotel are on their honeymoon...oops!
